Goals for a Blog

I thought I would let you know my goals for this blog. I would like for this site to be a network hub for fellow soap and bath and body product (and candle) artisans. I plan on providing regular articles to help your business, as well as to get your business' name out there. The more links and mentions of your business, the better rankings on the Internet. Better rankings lead to more sales. Here is a list of articles I will include regularly:
  • Artisan Profiles - I will feature an artisan in the bath or candle industry. What an awesome way to get some publicity for your website! I will review your site, highlight some of your talents and special features and include some photos (which we all love to see). This is not the time to fret about whether or not your stuff is as good as the next artisan's. This is about promoting your business for free. While I will actively seek out artisans, I would love for you to send me a link to your site. There are a lot of soap and candle makers out there, and if your site is not ranking high enough on the search engines, you'll never get an invite. So please send me a link and I'll put you on my list to feature you. I will space these features out so you may have to wait a few weeks before it's your turn.
  • Shop Reviews - Not all of us have retail establishments, but those that do can have their shop reviewed on this blog. I love to go to an artisan's shop and look around. I do a fair amount of traveling, so keep an eye out for an announcement on where I will be. In fact, I will be posting a notice in the next day or two. I'll come to your store, take photos, and blog about your talents right here. Don't want to wait for me, you can send me info and photos and I'll promote your store here.
  • Product Reviews - Joanna at The Soap Bar has already established a great soap review on her blog. She invites soapmakers to send a bar of soap, which she tries out and blogs about it to help promote businesses. One of these days, I need to send her a bar of my own. Now taking her great idea to the next level, I will review ANY product you want to promote - soap, body butter, lotion, candles, salts, scrubs, etc. It doesn't have to be a full size product, but I do want to feature your packaging. I will photograph your item for you, or post one of your own (your choice), test it out, and blog about it right here. No need to panic. I don't give bad reviews. If something has gone horribly wrong, I'll just email you privately, but in my experience, I can usually find plenty of positive things to say about most products. So if you think you have the best lip balm this side of the Mississippi or just a good all round bar of soap, shoot me an email and I'll tell you how to get it reviewed. The turn-around time for a product review will typically be about 2 weeks.
  • Tutorials and Tips - You'll find regular tutorials on this blog, both from me and guest bloggers. If you have a tutorial you'd like to share, let me know and I'll include it here along with links to your site and/or blog. Remember, the more your name is out there, the better your site will rank in search engines, so it benefits you to share your expertise with others. Now if you are dying to see how something is done, and want me to get a tutorial for it, let me know, and I'll get it on this blog. I will be posting some tutorials very soon.
  • Industry articles - I am a former librarian and school teacher. That means I have access to a wealth of info that I have compiled over time and I want to share it with others. I have a growing library of articles and books. As I find items that I think will benefit you, I'll post them here. For example, I recently read a great article on scent trends. I'll give an abstract of the article along with a link to the original, so you can build your own library of industry related news or upcoming events.
  • Business and marketing tips - As artisans and crafts people, some people don't know the first step to starting a business or how to use various social medias to market their wares. Fear not! You'll get a wealth of information here. I'll explain SEO basics, social marketing, business promotion, starting a business and other business related information.
  • Contests - We all love contests, and I will certainly have them here. Some contests will be my own, and some will be hosted by guest bloggers.
  • Sunday Spotlights (photos of great work)- I get so much inspiration looking at other people's phenomenal work. Once every week or two, I'll post some photos of products that will get your creative juices flowing following different themes. You never know when I will contact you to have your items featured.
  • Recipes - I love a good recipe. I will share recipes with you and provide links to some great sites with recipes that you can incorporate into your business or just use for yourself. Another way to promote yourself is to share a recipe that you have. I'll include it with a link to your site.
  • And more. More?? Yes, I am sure I will include more than that, but I felt I should give you some of my goals.

So there you have it. These are just a few of the goals I have for this site. So what's the catch you ask. There isn't one really. Everything here is free. Well, I lie. There is a catch. I have an "if I scratch your back" policy, so all I ask is that you link to my blog. Maybe mention to your soapy friends what I am up to, and that's all I ask. In the meantime, let me get to know you. Send me links to your site, or let me know that you have something you would like reviewed, or include a tutorial that will promote you and your blog/site. Networking and business promotion is only successful if you actively work with others. I'll have an article about that soon.
