Friday's Featured - Product Body PLUS a Contest

I just love Joanna of Product Body. She has a great sense of humor, an interesting blog, which I am a huge fan of, and to die for products. So to say I was thrilled when she agreed to be a featured company right here, is a bit of an understatement. Product Body began as a search for the perfect moisturizer but has developed into amazing works of art in the bath and body industry. Cremes and scrubs are made to order and arrive fresh. And the soaps look so yummy, I swear I put on weight just looking at them.

Product Body used to have a store front in Jupiter, in the same county I live down in sunny South Florida, and I kick myself daily for not popping in to check out all of Joanna's products in person. But alas, Product Body is offered exclusively online now. *Sigh* Now I just lust enviously at all of her gorgeous photos of soaps and butters. I can see that I'm going to have to buy some Product Body supplies ASAP. Who can resist fresh?

Here is my interview with Joanna. She's shared all of her dirty little secrets. OK, she hasn't but that doesn't mean it's any less interesting. Hope you enjoy learning more about Joanna as much as I do. Let the interview begin!

Tell us about yourself.
I am a bath and body products maker turned soap maker rather than a soap maker turned b+b maker which is the more organic transformation. Of course, this came out of my love for handmade soaps and me starting The Soap Bar blog almost 3 years ago.

What types of products do you sell?
Handmade cold process soap, sugar scrubs, balms, milk bath, salt bath, lotion and perfume oils.

How did you get into this business?
I've told this story so many times people are probably getting bored. Lived in NY and my hands were dry and cracked and the skin on my whole body itched because of it. When I moved down to Florida and my youngest son was old enough to go to school, I attempted to make my own moisturizers because I was never satisfied with any of the ones I had tried.

Where do you get your inspiration for your work?
At the beginning I got it from my need for better skin care, but now I get it from my customers and peers. When it comes to soap, though, I get inspiration everywhere. There is beauty in food especially and I'm not just talking about desserts. Desserts have the most gorgeous elements which spark my creativity in the soap lab more than anything else. I also live near the beach and go there quite often with my kids. Playing with wet sand and making drip castles can work wonders later in the lab!

Are you a member of any related organizations or do you have any special related certifications, etc.? I am a member of HSMG - I love them.

What is your favorite product and why? (That you make, of course)
I love Crush On You because I use it every day to wash my hands of greasy or stinky kitchen stuff like onions or meat or whatever. It cleans, scrubs and moisturizes and smells good, too! And because I make it, I can make it in any scent I want. ;)
What do you do outside of work?
Swim in the pool with the family, go to the beach, picnic, see live bands.

What are your business dreams for the future?
Well, I did live one of my dreams: to have a retail store and I am so glad I experienced it for 14 months. It was awesome! Perhaps again in 10 years when both my kids are out of the house and I don't have to worry about rushing home. I guess my dream is smaller than it used to be...perhaps more realistic and reachable. I'd like to become successful enough to support my family and put my kids through college and have excess money and retirement money and be able to hire the people we need to run Product Body to handle the increased volume with all of the success.

That's not too big of a dream.

If you could give advice to other bath and body or candle businesses, what would it be?
Make sure you have unique and professional looking packaging before you even start trying to sell. This will start you ahead of the game.

And now for the contest. Joanna, has genreously agreed to host a contest for all you blog readers out there.
The first person to name Joanna's favorite Crush On You scent, which is not offered, the newest Creme Fresh scent AND the newest product on Product Body will win a Crush On You and a soap in any scent they want! :)

I'm a little miffed that I can't particpate in these contests cause I really would like to win. Oh well, I will truly be excited for anyone that can pull this off and win. So I'm giving you all one week to post your answers. Don't wait though because the winner is the FIRST person with the right answers. Entries due by 11PM on June 3rd.

If you don't already follow the Product Body blog, you are missing out. Go there right now and start following. Do not pass Go, do not collect $200. Plus Joanna keeps you in stitches on Twitter and Facebook, so be sure to check out her website and social media sites as well. You won't be disappointed.

The Bonnie Bath Co.
